I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years experience working with individuals, families and groups. I have worked in acute psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers and community-based outpatient treatment settings. My career has primarily been focused on working with children, adolescents and their families to help them address emotional and behavioral issues. I have worked extensively with children and youth in foster care, children who have been adopted, children whose families have been disrupted by divorce and children who are having difficulties due to attention deficits and impulse control disorders.
I am a birth parent, a foster mother and the adoptive mother of a teenager. I have experience parenting children who are suffering from attachment disorders and most other emotional and behavioral problems.
It takes strength of character to identify problems and seek help to address them. Learning how to talk about and cope with problems instead of avoiding them, is hard work but well worth the effort.
I am a trained and experienced play therapist. I have worked with children as young as 2 years old through adolescents who have suffered from trauma and/or are suffering from behavioral problems. Play therapy lets children and youth deal with issues that they do not have the words to express. Parents often have difficulties knowing how to address problems that their children are experiencing, and family therapy helps the family learn to deal with problems together.
In some instances, families need therapy less than they need to just stop and listen to each other. In those cases, family mediation may be more appropriate. As a trained mediator, I am able to offer family mediation to clients who request this service.
I have completed post graduate training in family therapy at Washington University’s George Warren Brown School of Social Work.
My specialties include working with youth suffering from trauma that has resulted in attachment disorders, pre and post adoption issues and placement stabilization problems. I also specialize in working with clients with dissociative identity disorders, clients who have developmental disabilities, long-term mental health issues and clients who have difficulty responding to traditional talk therapy techniques.
