My name is Maria (or Marysia); I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have experience working with a variety of populations, ranging from incarcerated youth to the elderly. As a trauma-informed therapist, I focus on the intersection of trauma and subsequent adjustment to daily living. My focus is on the impact of trauma, current or generational, on cognition and overall executive functioning—emotions, feelings, behavior.
My practice uses a number of evidence-based modalities: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical-Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My approach is that of a facilitator: one also striving to be holistic, eclectic and not absolute, particularly given client uniqueness and variability. I currently specialize in the treatment of adults—emerging and college students included—with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, trauma-related disorders, disordered eating and substance abuse, relationship concerns, and LGBTQIA issues. All are welcome and all are safe.
I hold a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). My past academic work, ranging from UIUC to New York University, has included foreign language and literature, library science, and the complex relationship between information, knowledge, empowerment and mental health. I look forward to an affirming and supportive collaboration.
