Carelon Behavioral Health, formerly known as Beacon Health Options, is a behavioral health managed care company. If your insurance card or benefits summary references Carelon or Beacon, your mental health benefits may be administered through them rather than your primary insurer. Keri Powell Therapy accepts Carelon Behavioral Health.
We have offices in Champaign, downtown Champaign, Mahomet, Monticello, Bloomington, and Oak Brook. We also see clients throughout Illinois via telehealth. If your employer’s plan routes behavioral health through Carelon or Beacon, your therapy benefits are usable here.
How Carelon Behavioral Health Works
Carelon Behavioral Health manages mental health and substance use benefits on behalf of many employers and health plans. This setup is more common than most people realize. Your medical insurance might be through one carrier, while your mental health benefits are handled separately through Carelon.
A few things worth knowing before you reach out:
- Your Carelon behavioral health benefits are separate from your medical benefits. The deductible, copay, and coverage limits may be different from what you’re used to for regular doctor visits.
- Most Carelon-administered plans do not require a referral for outpatient therapy. You can contact a provider directly.
- Telehealth is covered under most Carelon-administered plans. Virtual sessions count the same as in-person for covered services.
- If you’re not sure whether your mental health benefits run through Carelon, check the back of your insurance card or the behavioral health section of your benefits summary.
When you reach out to us, we’ll verify your Carelon coverage and walk you through what your plan covers before your first appointment.
What to Expect When You Reach Out
When you contact us, we’ll ask for your insurance information and confirm your Carelon benefits before scheduling. Because Carelon administers plans on behalf of many different employers and carriers, the specifics can vary. We’d rather verify it accurately than make assumptions that lead to a surprise bill.
Once coverage is confirmed, we’ll match you with a therapist based on what you’re working through and your scheduling preferences. We have therapists who work with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship issues, and more. The goal is a good fit, not just an available appointment.
Your first session is a chance to get to know each other. You’re not committing to anything long-term before you’ve had a chance to see how it feels.
