If you’re a University of Illinois student covered under the UnitedHealthcare Student Resources plan, you have mental health benefits you can use right now. Keri Powell Therapy is in-network with UnitedHealthcare Student Resources, and we have a Champaign office a short distance from campus.
We also offer telehealth to clients anywhere in Illinois, which means your care doesn’t have to stop when the semester does. Whether you’re in Champaign, home for a break, or studying away, you can stay connected with your therapist.
Using Your UnitedHealthcare Student Resources Plan
UnitedHealthcare Student Resources is the University of Illinois student health insurance plan. It covers outpatient mental health services, including individual therapy. A few things worth knowing before your first appointment:
- As an in-network provider, we bill UHC Student Resources directly. You pay your copay or coinsurance, not the full session rate.
- Most student plan visits don’t require a referral for outpatient mental health services. You can contact us directly.
- Telehealth is covered under the plan. If you’re off campus, out of town, or just prefer not to come in, virtual sessions are a fully supported option.
- Your plan year typically follows the academic year. If you’re approaching the end of a plan year, it’s worth starting sooner rather than later so your benefits don’t go unused.
When you reach out, we’ll verify your benefits and walk you through what your plan covers before scheduling. No guessing about cost going in.
A Different Option for U of I Students
Campus mental health resources are valuable, and we’d never discourage you from using them. But some students prefer seeing a therapist off campus. There are a few reasons that comes up:
- Privacy – Seeing someone outside the university system means your records are entirely separate from your student file.
- Availability – We can often see new clients sooner, and our schedules extend beyond typical campus office hours.
- Continuity – Campus counseling services are often limited to short-term therapy with a set number of sessions. We offer long-term psychotherapy, so you can keep working with the same therapist for as long as it’s helpful. And if you go home during breaks, telehealth keeps that relationship going as long as home is in Illinois.
- Fit – We have multiple therapists with different specialties and styles. If the first match isn’t right, we can try another.
We work with students dealing with anxiety, depression, academic stress, identity and relationship concerns, trauma, and more. You don’t need a formal diagnosis or a crisis to reach out. A lot of the students we see are just carrying more than they expected and want someone to talk to.
What to Expect When You Reach Out
You reach out, we verify your UHC Student Resources coverage, and we match you with a therapist based on what you’re looking for. Your first session is about getting to know each other. You’re not committing to anything long-term before you’ve had a chance to see how it feels.
Keri Powell Therapy has been part of Central Illinois for over 15 years. We’re a group practice with offices in Champaign, downtown Champaign, Mahomet, Monticello, Bloomington, and Oak Brook, plus telehealth for clients anywhere in Illinois.
