Kai Schamer

Kai

I received my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Illinois after completing my
clinical internship here at Keri Powell Therapy. I strive to create a warm, open environment where clients can take the time to explore their feelings and circumstances in a way that is comfortable for them. I love working with clients to figure out the root causes of their problems and work together to find ways to resolve them.

I enjoy working with teens and adults and am comfortable working with most mental health concerns. I have the most experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, self-esteem struggles, mood disorders, suicidal ideations, struggles related to life transitions, relationship stressors, and family troubles. I am also open to working from a Christian faith-based perspective when clients are looking for this.

I believe in the power of the individual to make lasting change in their own lives. My goal as
your therapist is to help you process what has happened in your story, cope with the fall out,
and grow past it. While every person’s needs are different and require an individual approach, I
tend to use techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

Kai practices at our Mahomet location.
