I am a graduate from the Master of Social Work program at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Throughout my time at Keri Powell Therapy, I have learned a few things that are essential in supporting clients in their journey:
- Not everyone copes or heals in the same way
- A safe space and strong client-counselor connection is absolutely necessary in moving forward in therapy
- The process of therapy doesn’t need to be as scary or as clinical as you may picture
It is my dedication and desire to provide inclusive and welcoming services, and to be able to offer a safe space for all individuals seeking to start (or return) to therapy. I would like to be able to support you in any way I can, to ensure that you are comfortable throughout your healing process. It is important that this is a judgment-free zone, so that we can fully focus on connecting so that we can work through whatever is heavy in your lives.
I work with children (ages 8+), teens, and emerging adults, while my areas of focus include (but are certainly not limited to): depression, anxiety, disordered eating, self-confidence and self-esteem, and trauma. My practice is LGBTQ+ and gender affirming. Therapy is not one-size fits all, but I am able to adapt common modalities including CBT, DBT, ACT and TF-CBT to best support the client and make the space a practical one. After reading this, if you notice you are even the slightest bit excited or ready for therapy – I invite you to join me and so we can make this transition as easy as humanly possible.
Mary practices at our Champaign location.
